Prestige of the Decision Ecology and Risk-taking in R&D Project in the Biopharmaceutical Sector

Knowledge-based organizations pose an innovation project ‘scope–risk paradox’ in their projects. On the one hand, uncertainty of broader scope avails them opportunities to delegate responsibilities environment; on other elevated risk–reward evaluation hampers aspirations. This article suggests a solution: prestige decision ecology inflates rewards and deflates risks decision. research development (R&D) consists five factors: (a) technological, (b) organization-specific, (c) nationality, (d) temporality (f) structural. High these contextual elements implies that they influence perceived reward risk ratio. predicts high risk-taking, leading project. The evidence supports technological prestige, organizational temporal structural contribute R&D clinical trial. However, nationality shows no difference. Overall, we conclude interpretative decisions based situation biopharmaceutical sector; therefore, ecological factors should matter disciplines. Other disciplines draw value from social context will show more pronounced effects decisions. Hence, this study sets foundation for theory practice projects, organizations, sectors nations.
